Torpedo Raiders, Advanced Ed. is a 52-page illustrated book contaning a historical WW2 strategy card game involving torpedo bombers in several early war battles. Torpedo Raiders is a solitaire card game that allows you to recreate famous torpedo bombing missions during World War II. This edition adds advanced rules and scenarios to the standard game, as well as new historical background material. During play, the player flies a single torpedo bomber against the AA/flak of the defender (played by the game system) in a single game, or as part of a larger historical scenario. Besides the game tables and plane ratings provided, you will need a standard deck of 52 playing cards, a 6-sided die, and paper and pencil. Historically rated aircraft included are the Fairey Swordfish (British), Kate, Betty, Nell (Japanese), and Devastator (American) torpedo bombers.  Standard historical scenarios include Taranto (1940), Bismarck (1941), Pearl Harbor (1941), Force Z (1941), and Midway (1942). Advanced scenarios are provided for each of the stardard five scenarios, which add more options and variation.  Torpedo Raiders requires no set up, minimal space, and plays quickly. If you have access to the game tables and a deck of cards, you can play it most anywhere.  It presents the solitaire gamer with some interesting choices during play.  World War II torpedo bombing attacks create an exciting narrative for a wargame.  With this straightforward solitaire game system, the tension of these daring raids may be brought to life on your tabletop.

Destruction of Force Z is a tactical level, solitaire simulation of the short air/naval campaign off the coast of Malaya in late 1941 which saw the destruction of two Royal Navy capital ships, Prince of Wales and Repulse by Japanese bombers.  The player takes the British side, and the game system plays the Japanese side.  The object of the game is for the British to disrupt Japanese invasions taking place, while not losing his ships.  You as the player are presented with a difficult situation. Pearl Harbor has just been attacked; the entire Malayan peninsula is under threat of invasion. There  are not many offensive options open to you and your ships, but doing something to take the war to the enemy is preferable to meekly doing nothing at all. Perhaps you can disrupt invasion sites? Intercept enemy warships? Whatever you decide, it will be an uphill battle for the British. In the actual campaign, Force Z sailed out of Singapore into the South China Sea in the early evening of December 8. Admiral Phillips, onboard the Prince of Wales, ordered strict radio silence. If the two British capital ships were able to reach the Gulf of Siam undetected, they might be able to wreak havoc among enemy warships, transports, and invasion sites. If they were found, they risked the wrath of land-based Japanese bombers located in Indo-China. But danger from this eventuality was judged to be minimal, even though the RAF had warned the Admiral that they could not guarantee protection of the ships from the air. Includes illustrated 12-page digest-sized rule booklet with all rules and tables necessary for play, a small map and set of 59 counters (which must be printed and separated before play), Reference Card, and optional ship counters for a game variant, originally published in Panzerschreck #16 (2014).

Mers-el-Kebir, 1940 is a solitaire game based on the Royal Navy's attack on part of the French fleet along the coast of North Africa, at Mers-el-Kebir, in 1940.  The game is among that rare lot of simulations that may be played equally well by two-players or solitaire, and if solitaire, with the player taking either side.  The game uses the Advanced Salvo! system to handle WW2 naval combat. Mers-el-Kebir, 1940 comes with a 12-page digest sized rule booklet, a small, color map, a set of unit counters, and Reference Card, published in PDF format.  SITUATION: It is the sumer of 1940.  France has just signed an armistice with Germany.  What will happen to the French navy?  If Germany got its hands on the fleet, it would tip the balance of power in the Mediterranean.  The French have vowed never to surrender the fleet to the Gerans... but what if?  Britain cannot risk this poosibility, and so sailed a fleet down to the coast demanding that the French ships sail as a British ally (in violation of the armistice), intern their ships in a neutral port, or be scuttled.  The British said they would destroy the French ships at Mers-el-Kebir if these terms were rejected.  The French rejected the terms... which brings us to the battle, late afternoon, July 3, 1940.  What will happen?

Salvo! Denmark Strait, 1941 is a simple solitaire tactical game using the basic Salvo! system to simulate the action between Germany's Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, and Britain's Hood and Prince of Wales, which famously saw the demise of Hood. Extra warships allow for various "what if?" situations to be explored.  The player takes either side, and the game system takes care of the other side. This is a small "postcard" game that packs a lot of punch!

A very good set of games for a great price. I have used these mini-games in the classroom with great success, organising students in teams or, in the case of Torpedo Raiders, giving each a deck of cards and command of an individual aircraft. Eve [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
